ND Workforce Safety and Insurance (NDWSI)

Unfortunately, as of March 1st, 2016, Licensed Massage Therapists will no longer be allowed to bill for massage therapy services to NDWSI. A direct quote from the letter I received: “WSI will continue to allow massage therapy as an active modality only when performed by a physical therapist, occupational therapist, or chiropractor.  WSI will no longer approve massage therapy performed by a licensed massage therapist.”

It saddens me, and upsets me as well, that they will allow those who have very little massage/soft tissue manipulation training (unless they choose to seek out additional training on their own) to perform massage therapy services but not those of us who are expertly trained in it.

Health Savings & Flex Spending Accounts (HSA & FSA)

At this time, there are no health plan carriers in the Fargo/Moorhead area that contract with Massage Therapists for their health plans.  However, you may be able to use your HSA or FSA account for Massage Therapy services.

If you are interested in possibly using your HSA or FSA funds for Massage Therapy services, please contact your plan administrator.  They will be able to walk you through the required steps in order to be able to use these funds for massage therapy, if that is something that they will allow for your plan.

Health plan carriers include, but are not limited to:

  • Sanford Health
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of ND
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN
